20 Oct Candidates Need to Hear From You
At 50CAN Action Fund, we emphasize the importance of electoral engagement as a critical tactic for the policy changes that will help kids and strengthen schools.
Over the past five years of our political work, we’ve seen time and time again that election season is the most important time for officials to hear from their constituents. If potential voters are silent on an issue during an election, politicians will presume it is not a priority.
For this reason, electoral engagement has become increasingly important to the local political organizations in the 50CAN Action Fund network. Our teams are recruiting, surveying, funding and advising candidates, along with connecting them to the grassroots supporters needed to power their campaigns. With the November 8 elections fast approaching, we’re deeply engaged in dozens of races across the country, where our supported candidates are delivering a vision for the future of education that centers on students and the autonomy of their families in finding the education that’s right for them.
We look forward to sharing with you the stories about our successes following the November 8 election, just as we have shared with you our earlier victories this year in Delaware, Georgia , Hawaii and Tennessee, among others.
What can you do now with three weeks until the general election?
The 50CAN Action Fund supports all types of political advocates in delivering change for families, from political novices to seasoned veterans. If you have questions or need support, either as an individual or as an organization, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Supporting your advocacy with sophisticated electoral work is what we were built to do.
- Ask candidates on your ballot where they stand on your issues with direct and specific questions. Be polite but firm on pressing them for satisfactory answers.
- Knock on doors–this may be the most beneficial thing you personally can do to help a candidate win. In election after election, we’ve seen that a powerful motivation for voters is to hear from peers and neighbors who are supporting the candidate. Reach out to your favored candidate and ask where you can help.
- Make a donation–and if you can, encourage a few people to do it along with you. Let the candidate know that they are receiving your support because of their stance on education.
